kate and matt visit chicago

I know it's all about "throwback Thursday" now, but I thought a quick "flashback Friday" would be fun.
heading to Chicago, September 2011 to visit Kayleigh and Brent
we sunk that boat
 and devoured some Portillo's
and then we had to head home. don't let our smiles deceive you, it was to soon.

Not pictured: Renegade Craft Fair, walking forever to find the bbq fest and finally stopping for burgers, lazy Sunday watching football.

Thanks, Kayleigh and Brent for having us visit way back when. I hope to get a spring, early summer 2014 (what!?) visit on the calendar soon.

on a boat, Cheboygan

Today you will find us on a boat. For the whole day. It's our annual chain of lakes boat trip. Many years running, Matt's third. Pass me a bloody mary.

Summer 2012

Cheboygan last weekend was fun, fun, fun in the sun, sun, sun on the boat, boa-!

heading to hack-ma-tack via the cheboygan river.

Now we're looking forward to five uninterrupted days of vacation in the Upper Peninsula, visiting family soaking ourselves in the lake, a trip to a waterfall or a mine may be in store, definitely some beers and really good food. Much needed relaxation, for reals. Then we'll be home to celebrate his birthday the next weekend. Plans are brewing.

Matt's birthd-eve 2011

I really want to enjoy every bit of it and make the most of the 23 days we'll both be home throughout the month. A few goals to cook fresh food, open the windows and work in the yard a bit, sit outside and enjoy the last few weeks of summer. I think it can be done.

January - June 2012

we rang in the new year / ate lots of good food / flew to florida & I went red (head) / went skiing
it snowed / we drank beer / moved a bit / drank wine on a staycation
dressed up in anticipation / cleaned up the yard / received good things / went to dinner
and picked our drinks from an ipad / ate outside / bought flowers in rain / caught venus just before the sun sunk below the clouds
whined for food and wine at whine / started and finished the hunger games / drank out of cats / harvested basil

it's been a good year so far and i bet it will keep getting better!

a weekend away

Traverse City // Mission Peninsula // November 5 & 6, 2011

You know it's going to be a good sort of weekend when your waiter says, "I don't normally say this, but you know you guys are ordering a lot of food, right?" Oh, we knew it and it was and it was so totally worth it.

This weekend was total decadence. As much as we loved the food there's no photographic evidence, but here it is in drinks and scenery.
